8:15 and 9:30 AM Contemporary Service: A Christmas Awakening with Ramona Smith & Friends Ramona is a native of Los Angeles who as an amateur vocalist caught the interest of legendary blues artist, Johnny Otis. After filling Etta James’ place in Johnny‘s band, Ramona followed her dream and toured the world, performing in venues sharing bills with many celebrated performers including Marvin Gaye, B.B. King, Aretha Franklin and many others. Several years ago Ramona was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a subsidiary of Johnny Otis. She is now fronting her group “Ramona Smith and the Soul Rhythms” and is planning a Christmas album featuring Michael Ray, lead trumpet player for Kool and the Gang; Gerald Johnson; and First Church’s own Carl Mouton.
